Electrically powered buses, trams and trains running without overhead contact lines are an increasingly important part of public transport. Electric motors and traction batteries are replacing diesel-powered vehicles. The new internal energy storage systems also give trolley buses a significant degree of autonomy. In these new transport systems, charging infrastructure plays a particularly important role and smart, reliable, economical management is needed to make it work.

Furrer+Frey AG – founded in 1923 – is a pioneer in e-mobility. We have been building DC charging stations for electric bus and light rail networks since 2011. Our charging stations provide fast opportunity charging during operations and charging in depots and garages when vehicles are not in service. To reduce energy demand peaks, fleet operators also need smart charging management for their systems. For AC railways, we offer charging stations made to measure for voltages of 15 or 25 kV. They have been designed to operate independently of the rail traction power supply and also enable charging during operations on railway lines without overhead contact lines.

Building on our long experience as an engineering firm, we offer products and services that make an important contribution to transport companies’ success. We are a Swiss firm operating globally, but are also firmly rooted in our own local markets thanks to a dense network of partners in planning, architecture and construction. We therefore produce pioneering solutions that incorporate solar PV installations and energy storage devices. Our charging stations operate throughout Europe, providing safe charging for vehicles produced by leading manufacturers.
