In the event of an incident, an automatic earthing device (AEE) grounds the overhead contact line safely, significantly shortening the response time of rescue services.

Around one and a half years after the installation of the automatic earthing device (AEE) in the tunnel on the CEVA line (CEVA = Cornavin-Eaux-Vives-Annemasse) in Geneva, Furrer+Frey AG carried out its first inspection of the system. As expected, all components were found to be in excellent condition and its functionality is fully guaranteed.

The distinctive feature of SBB’s CEVA tunnel is its particular zone layout. This enables the operator to switch off and ground the overhead contact lines zone by zone, so that trains not affected by the incident can keep up the service in partial operation.
