The single-track line between Giswil and Lungern, operated by Zentralbahn, and the protective measures against natural hazards along this line are in urgent need of renewal. For this purpose, the line was closed completely for ten weeks during autumn 2023. In order to make the best possible use of this closure, sections of the line from Giswil to Kaiserstuhl and Kaiserstuhl to Lungern were renovated. The route was also modified, in particular to make way for a new road in the Kaiserstuhl area. We at Furrer+Frey were able to carry out overhead line work in two projects between Giswil and Lungern.

Some of the 80 or so new overhead line masts were erected by helicopter. Around 3.5 kilometres of overhead line, in certain cases in the rack-rail area, as well as feeder line and return cable were renewed. The sub-project between Kaiserstuhl and Lungern was completed on schedule. This year the work will continue between Giswil and Kaiserstuhl, for another exciting sub-project in this beautiful part of Switzerland.

Our project team’s motto, after all, is: “Let’s get to work where others spend their holidays!”

We would like to thank Zentralbahn and everyone involved for the successful collaboration and look forward to the next phase!
