Traction switching station for the Neuchâtel–La Chaux-de-Fonds line

Client: SBB
Project name: Traction switching station, Neuchâtel–La Chaux-de-Fonds
Partner:
Year of completion: 2021

As part of the renewal of the SBB Neuchâtel–La Chaux-de-Fonds line, Furrer+Frey was able to demonstrate its expertise by installing a traction switching station near La Chaux-de-Fonds railway station. This coupling switch station provides the star-shaped interconnection of the lines to La Chaux-de-Fonds. The project, planned and built in eight months despite difficult weather conditions, posed a significant challenge in terms of coordination and planning. Over an intensive nine-month period, we also renovated six tunnels, six open tracks and an underpass over a total of 27.3 km of track to ensure the link between these two major towns in the canton of Neuchâtel.
