Rigid overhead conductor rail ensures required contact wire height below bridge
The track renewal between Altendorf and Lachen involved updating the overhead contact line on the main line Zurich–Sargans below the Seestattstrasse overpass.

The limited space was a particular challenge, with installation of a conventional overhead contact line made impossible by the low clearance height. SBB therefore decided to install a rigid overhead conductor rail over a length of around 50 metres on both tracks.
Furrer+Frey’s rigid overhead conductor rail system made it possible to ensure the required contact wire height while maintaining all safety distances. Before and after the bridge, masts could only be erected on one side of the railway line. The combination of standard SBB support structures with components from Furrer+Frey resulted in a customised, functional solution that meets SBB’s requirements.
