The Shakurbasti depot is now equipped with a retractable rigid overhead conductor rail system above the longest maintenance track in India, which is 450 metres in length (as of June 2024) and was especially designed for the maintenance of Vande Bharat trains. India has now the longest single track with a retractable overhead contact line system.
Bringing this project to completion was a real team effort: Furrer+Frey India was responsible for planning, project management and putting into operation. The material was supplied by Furrer+Frey Switzerland, while the motors came from our branch in Italy. The overhead conductor rail system was installed by a local partner with the support of our Swiss electrical team, who also implemented the control system. The official handover to Indian Railways took place in June 2024.
