Client: RBS
Project name: S8 extension (turning track Bätterkinden / Bätterkinden–Büren zum Hof / double-track expansion Grafenried–Jegenstorf)
Partner(s): –
Year of completion: 2022
The project comprised three parts that were aimed at improving the timetable stability of the S8 line extended to Bätterkinden. A new turning track was built in Bätterkinden to make sure that regional express trains (RE) can run smoothly. The double-track sections between Bätterkinden and Büren zum Hof and between Grafenried and Jegenstorf were also upgraded.
Sub-project 1: Bätterkinden turning track:
After the stop in Bätterkinden, the S8 continues into the turning track, allowing the RE from Solothurn and Berne to pass the station unhindered.
Sub-project 2: Bätterkinden–Büren zum Hof:
A 1 km long double-track section was built, the track straightened, and the substructure renovated. The automatically tensioned FL 200 overhead contact line system allowed for the speed of the RE to be increased from 90 to 120 km/h. The contact wire cross-section was increased from 107 to 150 mm² Valthermo.
