Series 1

The advanced overhead contact line system for speeds of up to 225 km/h

Series 1 is our advanced overhead contact line system, designed for speeds up to 225 km/h. This system meets high requirements and is characterised by its cost efficiency in construction and life cycle, improved safety, and shorter installation times. The small number of components means that material procurement is simplified, maintenance costs are reduced, and tolerance to fault current is increased. Thanks to its versatile components and assemblies, the system can cover a wide range of infrastructure requirements. It also meets strict demands and standards in terms of interoperability, reliability, ease of maintenance and service life.

Series 1 has been added to Network Rail’s UK Master Series (UKMS) library to be used as the standard system for future projects in the UK. It has already been used successfully on more than 1,000 km of the Great Western line and in the Crossrail project, and is also being used in other electrification projects including the Midland Mainline, the Transpennine Route Upgrade, the Carstairs Junction Remodelling and many more.

  • A railway track under a clear blue sky. Overhead power lines run parallel to the tracks. The surrounding area has leafless trees and sparse vegetation, indicating either early spring or late fall. There are no trains visible on the tracks.
  • A railway line with overhead electric lines runs through a rural area with grassy fields and bare trees. The sky is partly cloudy with wispy, streaked clouds. In the background, there are low, rolling hills.
  • A series of tall, metal electricity pylons run along a grassy hill, partially obscured by dense green bushes. A wire fence runs parallel to the pylons on the lower side of the hill. The sky is overcast with gray clouds.

The main features of Series 1

  • The single insulator cantilevers (SICs) are composed of a small number of components, come preassembled, and can be easily and efficiently attached to the mast.
  • The two-track cantilevers (TTCs) are designed for multi-track lines and allow for operation on neighbouring tracks during installation work. They are particularly quick and easy to install, as they can simply be hooked onto the mast.
  • Mono-anchor booms are specially designed individual gantry beams that can be easily and efficiently integrated into existing overhead contact line systems. This approach provides great flexibility in planning and significantly simplifies the installation process.
  • Close-up of a gray high-voltage power line insulator connected to metal structures with a wire. The insulator has a ribbed cylindrical shape and is mounted on a pole under a cloudy sky.
